McKenzie Method® of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy®

Rick earned a specialized certification in McKenzie evaluation and treatment of the spine.

The McKenzie Method® of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy® (MDT) is an internationally researched and acclaimed system of assessment and management for spinal and extremity musculoskeletal disorders developed by New Zealand Physiotherapist Robin McKenzie. It has been widely used all over the world for more than 60 years.

Clinicians trained in the MDT system are able to assess and classify all complaints  of the musculoskeletal system. That means that if a problem is coming from the spine, extremity joints, muscles or tendons, then a MDT evaluation is appropriate. An MDT clinician will be able to identify if MDT is indicated, what management strategy is best, and outline a predicted recovery pathway. (citation: https://mckenzieinstitute.org/patients/what-is-the-mckenzie-method/)

Vestibular and Vertigo Rehabilitation

Our vestibular system functions to help detect the position and movement of our head to help identify where we are in space. The vestibular apparatus sits in our inner ear canal sending messages to the brain allowing coordination of eye movement, posture, and equilibrium. Occasionally, individuals can have dysfunction of their vestibular system which results in dizziness, nausea, headaches, and the feeling of being off balance.  Our clinicians are trained to identify the source of this dysfunction and create a treatment plan to help you return to the life you want to live. Whether you have symptoms of vertigo, post-concussion, balance changes, or dizziness, our team at LaFrance Physical Therapy is here to help.

Blood Flow Restriction Training

Blood Flow Restriction, commonly referred to as BFR, involves the application of a specialized tourniquet cuff to the proximal portion of an exercising arm or leg to reduce arterial inflow and restrict venous outflow from the limb. Exercising in this manner allows the use of low intensity exercise to elicit positive
adaptations in muscle size, strength, or endurance typically associated with much heavier loads or higher intensities.
